Transport community of South East Europe is being created, Belgrade will be the leader

The signing of the treaty establishing a Transport Community of South East Europe is expected in mid-2017, announced yesterday by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

- Bearing in mind that the contract is the next step in the development of the transport sector of the Western Balkans, it is logical to conclude that the seat of the secretariat transport community should be in Belgrade.

- I informed the commissioner about the initiative (EU Transport Violeta) Bulc and (Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations Johannes) Hahn - said the State Secretary Miodrag Poledica.

Poledica has talked with Bulc and Hahn within the meeting of ministers of transport on Transport observatory of South East Europe (SEETO) about the draft treaty establishing a Transport Community of Southeastern Europe, said in a statement, which added that the countries of the region should agree on the text of the contract "in future period", while the signing is planned in mid-2017.

What is Transport Community and how much it would mean for Serbia and the region?

There have been talks about this community for some time now, considering that the goal of European Union is to strengthen the cooperation of the neighboring countries. In relation with that, countries of former Yugoslavia (without Slovenia, but with Albania) have important geo-strategic position, which makes this region important for the realization of the internal transportation cohesion of the EU territory.
