TERRIBLE CONFESSION OF A WOMAN FROM BELGRADE: Husband broke my leg while i breastfed the son, later he beat him up
Hajrija Ramadani (46) from Belgrade, suffered domestic violence for years , and the harassment did not even stop while she was pregnant.
According to Hajrija, the torture started with threats and insults, future spouse hit her for the first time when she was pregnant.
- He broke my leg while i was breastfeeding our son and and i tried to keep him away from approaching us. When my son grew up, he beat him up to and hit him against concrete. Son came running to me twice while i was working all bloody and teared up because father did not let him in the house when it was minus 10 degrees outside - Hajrija remembers the hardest moments.
According to her own confession, she reported the abuser to the Center for Social Work and the police many times. But, she says, she never received assistance.
- Ex husband was and remained alcoholic. As if the beating was not enough, at the end he sold the house, which is am still paying off, and he kicked me and the child on the street. It was nicer to him to live in a camp trailer, without water and electricity, and me, who supported his entire family, he left without anything. His brother-in-law threatened me that he will bury me in the backyard of the family house and said that "Albanians can't be in Belgrade" - said Hajrija.
In March 2015 she mustered the strength to stop the agony and left to safe house, where she spent around 7 months recovering. Her son, who is 23 now, decided to leave Serbia.
- Child asked me to go 16 years ago, and i used to justify the actions of my husband. Now i can not forgive myself because i suffered, most of all for the kids. It is hard to explain that you can not abandon the abuser, the fear, the shame.. As if you are paralyzed. Now i am afraid of no one and o want to help all women who are abused! I urge you not to wait a minute, you have the support, we have each other, you can do it!
