SPECTACLE OVER SERBIA: Supermoon was especially shiny in Novi Sad (PHOTO)
On Monday, at exactly 14 hours and 52 minutes Central European Time, Moon passed closest to Earth in the past 68 years and looked unusually large and bright. People from Novi Sad had the opportunity to see this "spectacle" in many different shades that in all its greatness come to the fore.
Since the Moon's orbit around the Earth is elliptical, the distance between the Earth and its only natural satellite varies. "Supermoon" on Monday was 30 per cent fuller and 14 percent brighter than usual because it was only 356,000 kilometers away from Earth.
The next "Supermoon" of similar proportions will appear again in 18 years. The last such was in 1948, a particularly brilliant was in 1912, when the moon was closer to the Earth for just 134 kilometers.
