The most terrible curses, the ones where someone wishes for physical injuries and death, exist even today. They arrive by SMS messages and by mail. The development of technology is just another way for curse to survive in 21st century.

- I hope that St Devic and emperor Lazar bend your mount, brake your hand, wound your heard. I hope that sorcerers bring you evil in house, the one you did, you will bring darkness upon yourself.

- I brought my TV to repair it to the repairman who is my friend from school. Since he works from his home, I met his wife, young 25 year old woman. I saw her once and I saw he again when I picked up the TV. I talked twice with a friend for 15 minutes tops. The same day I took the TV I received this SMS. It is clear that this is a jealous wife, but a curse? I have never seen anything like this, I thought it was long forgotten. For a young lady to curse and via SMS message - said this confused girl from Kragujevac.

Most of the young think about curses as a joke from the internet, like - I hope your dog vomits on the bed in front of guests. But there are some curses that are all but a joke. Maybe the most known Serbian curse, the curse of prince Lazar who said before the battle on Kosovo "Who is Serbian and of Serbian nationality, and does not come to the battle, he is not to have a hart in offspring..." The tradition sad that the curse came true in some villages, and those villages are deserted.

Ethnologist Lasta Djapovic, who dealt with curse phenomena in her books, explains that the curse wish points the evil on the most precious things the cursed one possesses. That's how it goes in curses, with the power and the magic of words. the wishes like sick people unable to die, one of the newlyweds dying on the wedding day, families to have no male children so the name stops.

- Curse is the expression of helplessness, desperation and the anger of individual, out of pure spite. By the rule it is individual act. It rests on the work of higher power, which can, or can not, work on the suggested way. By the folk belief, the curse can directly affect the one the curse was said to, or it can skip the one and pass to descendants up to nine generations. Some accident or trouble that occur to the one who received the curse is interpreted as the affect of the curse in our villages. Hence there atavistic fear or at least discomfort with our contemporary and urban man, if someone curses,  explains Dr. Lasta Djapovic for the Telegraf.

in her work "Death and transcendence in curses", published by the Ethnographic Institute, she explained in detail the phenomenon of curse, which we fear, but we know little about them.

- According to popular belief, not every curse has equal weight... A parent's curse is considered a heavy curse - explains Djapovic.

There are examples in folk literature for the curses of motherhood and even some random curses - to come true. It is considered that fathers rarely curse, but when they do the curse "from the heart", so their curse is more dangerous and more efficient. Godfather's curse is also very heavy, because there is a belief that the godfather is a connection between a man and a god. However, it is believed that the strongest curse is the one that a left girl utters, who's chances to marry and her reputation were destroyed by gossip.

- It is believed that "God hears" the curse of the widow, orphans and weak, caused by injustice.

One of the important beliefs about curses, which gives at least a little breather from the fear of the future, is the belief that wrongly said curse won't hit the one which was intended to, but it will return to the one that cursed in the first place.
