- Until now, it was stipulated minimum of six months in prison for these crimes, and the draft amendments to the Criminal Code envisages that minimum sentence that the court may impose is a year - said the Minister of Justice Nela Kuburovic.

She pointed out that the Ministry of Justice approved the request of the Ministry of Interior to tighten penalties due to the fact that in recent years there has been increased number of serious crimes because of the use of illicit weapons.

Amendments to the Criminal Code were necessary because the courts have shown a mild penal policy.

- The amendments Criminal Code were harmonized with the Law on Weapons and Ammunition, which began to be implemented in March this year - noted Kuburovic.
