After this UEFA change, FC Red Star and FC Partizan may never play Champions League!

It was hard so far, and now it will be even harder for Serbian clubs to get to the elite rank championship.

European Football Association announced that it changes the qualification format for the Champions Leagues from 2018, in a way that only the teams from the strongest leagues will compete, and the greatest weight will go on "smaller clubs".

UEFA on Friday held a press conference in Monte Carlo, where they  announced that from 2018 new format of the competition will be implemented, more precisely, the new qualification format according to which the smaller clubs like the FC Red Star and FC Partizan will have much more hard time to qualify for the strongest club competition in the world.

With this change UEFA will reduce the number of teams in Champions league from "smaller leagues", like Superleague, and they will increase the number of participants from the best leagues in Europe.

Under the new format, four teams from the best four states by coefficient, will go directly to the Champions league. 

States that are in fifth and sixth place after ranking will give two direct entries into the Champions League, the countries placing seven to ten will give only one entry.

In simple language, when the big boys are settled, it will be very hard to reach the group stage from the rest of the Europe.

UEFA justifies this action with increased quality and maximizing the commercial success, however, at the same time it is a very bad news, not only for Serbian football, but also for football in entire region, because clubs from eastern Europe will have hard way ahead of them to get to the Champions league.
