Serbia is sending water pumps to Macedonia to help remediate the consequences of floods
Assistant Chief of the Sector for Emergency Situations, Bojan Tomic, said today that there are no warnings for Serbia about possible increased rainfall, and that sector is constantly monitoring the situation and is prepared to react according to the warnings arriving from the Republic Hydrometeorological Service.
After the great rainfall that struck Macedonia during the weekend, Tomic said that Serbia will help remediate the consequences of floods caused by heavy rain in that country and that the water pumps will be sent first.
- We offered our help, now we are waiting for specific requests from Macedonia. What is important is that, we have experience with floods and trained men. For start we will send pumps to drain water - said Tomic for TV Pink.
Tomic could not precise the number of people from the Sector for Emergency Situations which will be sent for Macedonia, but he added that with each pump, the certain number of trained men will be sent to Macedonia to work on the equipment.
Tomic said that Serbia will keep sending needed help for Macedonia. That was, he continues, the greatest amount of rainfall on the small area in such a short time and he reminded that the increasing problem of urban floods today is that the sewerage can not hold all the water.
