Polling places closed, preliminary results to arrive soon

BELGRADE - A total of 15 polling places where the vote for the new composition the Serbian parliament was repeated were closed at 8 p.m. Wednesday, and the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) should come up with preliminary results of the early parliamentary elections very soon.

The number of those eligible to vote at these 15 polling places was 19,631.

RIK Chairman Dejan Djudjevic told Tanjug that no irregularities at the polling stations had been reported and the repeat vote was conducted fully respecting all the prescribed procedures.

The results of the repeat election will show the definitive list of parties making up the new republic parliament, and it is only uncertain if two lists that are hovering around the threshold, primarily the DSS-Dveri list, will make it in.

The list gathered around the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) won 48.24 percent of the vote, more than all the other parties combined.

The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) won 10.96 percent, the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) won 8.11 percent, the Democratic Party (DS) won 6.03 percent, the 'Enough is Enough!' list won 6.03 percent, the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) won 1.50 percent of the vote.

The list headed by Muamer Zukorlic won 0.86 percent, the Party of Democratic Action of Sandzak (SDA) won 0.80 percent, the Russian Party won 0.36 percent and the Party for Democratic Action won 0.43 percent of the vote.

Voting was repeated at 15 of over 8,000 polling places in Serbia - at five polling stations in Nis, two polling stations in Belgrade, Jagodina and Vranje each and one each in Backa Topola, Sremski Karlovci, Kladovo and Uzice.

The election silence was over at 8 p.m..
