DANCE SIRTAKI AND DRINK OUZO IN THE MIDST OF BELGRADE: "Greek weekend" soon on Republic Square

The event "Greek Weekend" will be held for the first time on 14th and 15th May on the Republic Square, with the aim of promoting Serbian-Greek friendship, tradition, culture, music and gastronomy from the land of Helena.

City Secretary for Economy Tijana Maljkovic said that this event was to take place much earlier, and that for such an event is never too late.

- Greek weekend will be especially useful to primarily domestic tourists and residents of the capital city. In this way, we show the tourists how important relations between Serbia and Greece, a good relationships between Belgrade with Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as regions that are popular during the summer season - Maljkovic pointed out at a press conference in the hotel "Excelsior".

She pointed out that this event has a special significance for the Secretariat of Economy, which is responsible for the resource development of small and medium enterprises, as well as tourism in the capital because they will then present a larger number of companies, members of the Greek business associations. This, according to her, will allow to connect our producers with Greek importers and thus qualify our domestic products to Greece and vice versa.

Belgrade has 56,000 registered businesses in the territory of the capital, and it will be of importance to visit this event and join the good economic contacts - pointed Secretary line.

The event will be very appealing to the citizens of Belgrade, local guests, but also for foreigners, which are increasing in our capital, said the Acting Director of the Tourist Organization of Belgrade Miodrag Popovic.

A significant number of foreign tourists coming to Belgrade from the north, the Macedonian part of Greece.

- Presentation of our capital has intensified over the past few years in Athens and in Thessaloniki, and to the satisfaction of both sides - noted Popovic.

Director of Economic and Trade Department of the Embassy of Greece Haralambos Kunalakis said that the Greek-Serbian relations are based on similar historical circumstances and experiences. The strength of these relationships, he said, continues to evolve continuously in accordance with close political, cultural and business ties, a "Greek weekend" just represent these good relations.

Director of the Office of the Greek National Tourism Organization Sofia Lazaridou said that the aim of this event is deepening the traditionally good relations between the two countries and two peoples.

- A special segment of the announced event will be tourism, which is one of the most important economic activities of Greece, which has been one of the favorite destinations for Serbian tourists. Every year we welcome more than 800,000 Serbs, while this season, based on reservations is expected to increase the number of tourists by 20 percent - announced Lazaridi and recalled that a large number of Greek tourists visiting Serbia, especially in Belgrade.

Visitors of "Greek weekend" will be able to enjoy at the Republic Square in the smells, tastes and sounds of Greece. Expected performance of the internationally renowned folk ensemble "Likio Elinidon" from Larissa, accompanied by the band "Model Vej". In honor of "Greek weekend" at the National Theater will be performed "Antigone", while the Terazije Theatre the play "Zorba the Greek" and the popular musical "Mama mia".

The event organizer is the Association of International Friendship.
