In 2015, 178 person was registered to be HIV infected, which is the largest number since 1987, according to the Health Institute "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut".
Men are more infected than women.
The number of people diagnosed with HI is 37% larger than in 2014 when 130 cases were discovered.
Only in the last two months of 2015, 45 people were diagnosed, which is double than in 2014 and 2013.
- In 2015, this virus was diagnosed in 173 male persons, and 5 female, and more than 30% are people between 15 and 29 years of age - it was stated from the Institute.
Like in previous years, the highest number of infected came from anal intercourse.
In Europe today, more than 2.5 million people are HIV infected, 30-50% do not even know that they are infected, and the other half finds out when the immune system is already weak.
In Serbia, one person out of 3 infected, does not know they have the virus.
The late diagnosis is the biggest problem, present at more than 60% of the cases, which leads to sometimes death in the first three months since the discovery.
Early diagnosis and the treatment can significantly lower the risk of getting infected and giving this infection to someone else.
