Despite her being far along, Avan, with her husband Herman Abdul Rahman and a little girl Mehrina escaped from Iraq some two months ago because their town was destroyed by the Islamist terrorists.
They came to Serbia through Macedonia on Tuesday, March 22, and they reached Leskovac in a cab going to Belgrade.
- Avan had birth pains and they were becoming stronger and stronger - said Hermen Asa with tears in his eyes while holding his daughter and watches his wife and son:
- When we were near Leskovac, the delivery started, so we asked the cab driver to get us to a nearest hospital. Then we found another cab and got to the hospital.
The delivery itself was spotless, and the boy got the name Uan, he weighs 3 kg and is 53 cm tall.
- Her belly was small so we had to check whether she was pregnant at all. The delivery was spontaneous and the baby got best marks - said dr Biljana Ljubic, gynecologist.
Avan was in great fear for her husband and child, but when she saw them she started talking.
- It was very difficult and I was afraid, because I do not speak any other language except Kurd. The way here was very difficult and strenuous, but we did not have anywhere else to go. We were 2 hours in a rubber boat going from Turkey to Greece and I would gladly forget that time.
Her husband said that he will be eternally grateful to the people from the hospital for their care.
He is thrilled how the police, prosecution office, and members of the hospital treated them.
- I am happy for becoming father once again. Everything was good in the end, and I cannot even think about what would have happened to us in a forest far away from any city. I do not what would I do. Compared to Serbia, other countries should be ashamed how they treated us - stated Herman who was jobless in Iraq for years.
Their companions, who expect their baby in a couple of months, will continue their travel to Belgrade while Hermen and his daughter will wait in the Leskovac safe house for Avan to get out of the hospital, and they will too continue to Belgrade where they will wait for the borders to be opened.
General manager of the Hospital in Leskovac, dr Nebojsa Dimitrijevic said that this situation was nothing new for them.
He reminded about the horrible traffic accident when they helped dozens of migrants.
- Two months ago we had a patient from Syria who had extra uterus pregnancy. Then, like now, we did everything to treat them accordingly - said dr Dimitrijevic.
