It is true that we are under constant stress during the day.
If we cannot find a way to deal with them, we can easily lose our personality.
The story that confirms this is the story about Jovan Saković (30) who is more than good in this sort of sport.
- Everything started with love problems. I have always liked dynamic sports, but when I broke up with my girlfriend I wanted to forget everything and to go somewhere. With my friend Milan I started climbing the rocks in 2010 near my hometown. Step by step, climbing has entered my life and it became my life style - said this resident from the city of Niš.
- Then I got another job and moved to Belgrade. Fast life in the big city and stressful job made me use my free time just to train. The good thing is that I can train individually or with my friends. I spend most of the day in front of a computer and so I want to enjoy my free time in adventures like this. When you try, there is no going back. This is like a drug, I need adrenaline fix, which gives me the will and desire to find a new place and to climb - said Jovan.
He explained that it is not easy to train and that, like in any other sport, one should be ready for sacrifice, but in the end it has its merits.
- I have to be ready for various situations. It is mental strength as well as physical. Apart from being fit, I simply must not panic and my brain is focused all the time. The most dangerous situations are when a reptile bites you. Snakes and lizards live in the holes during summer, and we put our hands into those holes just to find balance for the next step. During winter I climb the rocks strewn with ice, or ice waterfalls, which can also be risky because when I use the small axe to climb sometimes the ice can break. Still, this has not happened to me so far, but I have to be careful.
Saković revealed that anyone can train and that the equipment is really important:
- Anyone can practice, really, it just takes a bit of courage and will. Of course, when you start you should go for easy rocks. If you practice in artificial conditions, you should have special climbing sneakers and the liquid magnesium for the friction. If you practice outdoor, you need a rope, a helmet, sneakers, first aid kit. The equipment is expensive, but it is important to have a good one, because it is not safe if you buy the used equipment.
- One should drink a lot of liquids and easy food which provides you with energy. My ideal meal is a tuna sandwich and two bananas. During the breaks I eat some snacks, almonds, and walnuts. After the practice you should eat well. Most of the climbers drink beer, so I also take a beer to relax - says Jovan.
We were curious to know who are the better climbers, men or women.
- I think women. Their body is different, their arms are weaker and so they use their legs to climb. Legs can take bigger suspension than the arms and it is easier. Men usually go for the muscles, because their power in arms is bigger. The difference lies in the climbing technique; also, how one moves on the rock has a lot of effect. Also, our champion in climbing is a woman, Staša Gejo.
In the end, he told us where he has climbed so far in Serbia:
- I have climbed mostly in southern and eastern Serbia, but also in the western parts and in Vojvodina province.
- My sincere recommendation is that people should start training, because it is never too late. Today, in the world of computers, we need to get free and to forget about the work for a while. Any healthy connection with the nature is good ,and if you practice, that is even better. If you want to experience this, on Saturday, March 12 2016, in the city of Pančevo there will be a first Dry tooling competition in Serbia on the artificial rock.
So, move up those legs and practice!
Take a look how this climbing looks like:
