A SCANDAL IN THE SERBIAN CHURCH: 80.000 Euro missing? The money was taken from the believers, the Patriarch found out about it

M.V., former manager of the Lazarica church in Belgrade allegedly embezzled 80.000 Euro of the church money and because of this, he was transferred to a church on the outskirts of Belgrade.

According to "Blic" news agency, the Patriarch Irinej found out about this by himself, while checking "dubious works in this church" at the end of 2014.

According to this news agency, a steep decline of income through previous years was the reason why the investigation was started and M.V. was sent away.

Patriarch Irinej is resolute to fight against financial scams in SOC, and he said:

- I was controlling the financial status of this church, and I found out that 80.000 Euro was missing. This is the money from the believers; I have no words to describe the sorrow I felt when I found out about this. This money should not be embezzled, ever - said Patriarch.
