Taxi driver was bound and slain because of Euro 20 bill: The newest details of the horrible crime

Police office of the city of Šabac arrested yesterday M.I. (19) and M.P. (20) on reasonable doubt that they had slain the taxi driver Čedomir Popović (61) on the night of February 7!

The unfortunate man died of the sustained injuries in the ER of the local hospital.

According to "ALo!" news agency, the motive was refusal to pay the bill.

- When he drove the two boys on the destination, the driver gave them the bill. They said that they did not have the money and tried to leave the vehicle. A fight ensued and in one moment, M.I. took out a knife and he cut the driver's neck. After they stabbed him one more time, they ran away. Police found the knife used. M.P. was arrested right away who told the entire story. M.I. is from the foster family - said the source.

Two days ago, on February 7, Čedomir took two passengers at the city bus station and was supposed to drive them to the village of Zablaće.

However, close to the memorial „Ašikov grob“ he called the dispatch over radio, repeating the SOS code: "16, I am bleeding a lot.."

- This is their code for emergency situations, since their company only has 15 cars. His colleagues went right away to the spot he said, and he was found gravely injured near the memorial.

He was transported to the ER where his wife and son were waiting for him.

- He was conscious, he was looking at me and fighting with all he got, but he could not speak. He had a neck wound, and he was holding the right side of his stomach, so I guess he was stabbed twice. When the autopsy is done, we will get the results - says the wife Zorica.

Doctors tried to reanimate the man two times, but there was nothing to be done.

His son told us that the doctor informed him that his father had already lost 4l of blood.

- According to the info we got, at the bus station where there were more taxi drivers, two boys were looking to get a lift. Two drivers refused them but Čeda decided to take them. He sent the message to the dispatch about the location. Those drivers knew that the boys were problematic and that was why they refused them, but he did not know that - said one of the murdered driver's friends.

The dispatch worker was constantly talking with the injured driver.

His voice was changing after time passed.

According to the unofficial information, his hand was tied to the steering wheel, and the taximeter still showed 20 Euro bill.

Police impounded the car right away so it is not known whether the boys took something from the car.

Čedomir Popović will be buried today, February 9,  at the local cemetery.
