He was found in his car with his neck cut in the village of Metlić, 5 km from the alleged route.
He was transported immediately to the Emergency Room of the local hospital.
It was confirmed that his aorta was partially cut.
According to Telegraf news agency, doctors tried to reanimate him, but it was useless and the taxi driver succumbed to the injuries.
Police are searching for the suspect.
