Boy M.K. (4), who suffers from several maladies since his birth, has been in the Children's hospital for the last 13 months, and allegedly, his parents have never shown up since they left him, nor anyone visits him.

- I was in the hospital with my daughter this summer, and having seen the situation in which the kid was, I bought him some food and clothes. When we got out of the hospital, I continued bringing him food, but that was soon forbidden because we were not related - states a mother who wished to stay anonymous.

She adds that no one from the family paid any interest in this boy, and this was unofficially confirmed for "Blic" news agency by the people working in the hospital.

A woman from the city of Novi Sad, who works in France, and who also wished to stay anonymous because her child was at the same hospital, said that she wanted to adopt the kid.

- We visited him often while I was in Serbia. I even suggested to become his guardian, but I was rejected because the child was supposed to have a special foster care - she added.

Moreover, she said that she and her little daughter grew sick for the small boy.

- We were fond of him very much. We begged to let us visit him at least during the weekend, but they would not let us. I had to abandon this fight ultimately - adds she.

This woman changed his clothes and bathed him after the surgeries he had, instead of his parents.

The manager of the hospital, dr Slobodan Grebelinger says that it happens that parents leave their children and never return.

- In a case like that, we notify the social center, but our job is to take care about the health of those kids, they take care of the rest. There are parents who have more children, so they do not have time for visits - says dr Grebelinger and adds that he cannot talk more because of the privileges of other patients.

Still, there was an official statement from the hospital:

"Young M.K. is a patient at the Institute, and his parents cooperate on a daily basis with the Social Center and the Institute. We hope that you understand the position and that you will report in accordance with that", it is stated in the letter.

Social Center of the city of Kanjiža stated also that it was not true that the parents abandoned their child.

- As far as the information in the text are concerned, they are far from the truth. If there is a need, this center can prove the real condition for this parent-child relationship. Texts like these contribute to the public outrage, which is all based on half-information - said Timea Kljajić Barat, the general manager of the Social Center in the city of Kanjiža.
