While the seconds are counting down, you see the chart which shows how long you should breathe through the nose, keep the breath and then breathe out through the mouth.
- The exercises are key part of cognitive-behavioral therapy. They are used against bodily symptoms manifesting in neurotic disorder: shallow breathing, fast heart rate, numbness in the fingertips... - explains Petrović.
One should examine the way how to learn these exercises and they should be applied when a person feels the symptoms, fear signals, or arising panic.
The exercise should be practiced until the level of fear is reduced, and when a person feels control over panic.
- Those who have not learned the exercise yet should repeat it 3 times a day, 5 minute each - advises this therapist.
It is possible to exercise like this anywhere because it is virtually unnoticeable and it can be practiced in the public transport, while working, while shopping...
The second important part of the application is giving an individual appraisal of the fear level or anxiety, with the mark ranging 1-10, which is the scale encompassing all levels of fear.
- People who exercise like this can sense the subjective experience of anxiety and the application writes down their results. In that way they can monitor their progress. They can set up an example, like: "I want to bring it down to level 2" and then they can see whether they are far or close to the level they projected - says Petrović.
This application is free to download and a couple of thousand people have already used it.
For now, it is only available for android cellphones, in Serbian and English language.
This psychotherapist, who invented the design and animation for this application, expects to have a desktop application ready to be used, and it can re reached through the website www.psiholosko-savetovaliste.com.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety and panic attacks are a result of stress which mind is trying to take care of.
Anxiety is the state of inner displeasure and fear that something very bad is going to happen.
It is not connected to anything in particular, and the person often thinks that they do not control their lives.
People who suffer from anxiety attacks disbelieve that life is dangerous and that they should protect themselves which leads to a series of bodily disruptions.
