In an exclusive interview with the Telegraf, the star of the TV series "Long Island Medium" Theresa Caputo reveals how she communicates with the spirits, whether she would cooperate with the police in solving murders, how hell and paradise look like, which movie best describes the mediums and whether there is God.

Teresa was only four when she felt a tingling in the body and for the first time in her life saw - a spirit. She chattered with her dead grandmother before seemingly frightened parents on the couch in the living room, she met long deceased grandmother in home halls, and soon began to communicate with unknown souls: a middle-aged man who had committed suicide, a seven-year boy who had drowned, a woman who had died at childbirth, but also the stars like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson ...

Yes, you read that right. But if you think that this life is a blessing, then try to imagine yourself in the middle of the night getting up out of bed, moving the curtain from the window, and a little further, in a neighbor's yard, on a tree a hanged man is hanging, reaching out to you trying to tell you something.

It is the everyday of the American Theresa Caputo (48), a housewife, a mother of two children and the star of the show program of "Long Island Medium" (author’s note We are watching the seventh season on TLC) who, humorously observes, at the age of 4 thought everyone sees ghosts, at 14 that she went crazy, and at 48 that she is definitely "crazy"!

Telegraph met this witty, communicative (author's note, as only Americans of Italian origin can be) television star who receives 20,000 e-mails per week, for breakfast, in a restaurant on Broadway in New York where we "rushed" at the invitation of the channel "Discovery".

Teresa arrives on time, accompanied by her husband Larry from who, she says, for 25 years never separated, filling the room with loud laughter, jokes, unsolicited comments ... In front of her there are orange juice and croissants.

- I heard that you came from Serbia! That's wonderful! I knew nothing about this country until I saw on Twitter how many Serbian fans I have!

To our remark that Serbia is close to Italy and that it would be logical to know where it is, Teresa responds immediately:

- But I've never been to Italy!

Her husband Larry adds:

- All I know in Italian are a couple of curses (laughter) ... All kidding aside, Teresa and I are planning to go to Italy, where our ancestors are from. It is a gorgeous country.

At the moment our two-meter waiter interrupts us to pour coffee into large American cups ... He seamlessly leans and says in pure Serbian: "I know where Serbia is. I finished the Faculty of Economics in Novi Sad."

Leaving the story with him for later, we turn to Teresa with serious ontological dilemmas.

What do the spirits say, are we going to God when we die, and what the hell and paradise look like?

- There is a higher power, and every soul itself chooses its own way! It depends on us, then, what destiny our souls will have. A fate definitely exists. As far as heaven and hell are concerned, I can say that there are energy levels. Some spirits with whom I interacted were at lower levels, the others - at higher ones. Some choose to stay "on the other side" and to continue to learn, others return to Earth going into someone's body ... I took off the burden to many of them, allowing them to communicate with loved ones, so they crossed the levels more easily.

One time you told you leave your body when you communicate with spirits, but that in those moments you do not cry. Did you cry when you found out that this is your last life?

- No, I'm not at all sorry that this is my last life. Who knows what will happen with me when I go to the other world. Maybe I'll become a guide of souls.

You are obviously not afraid of spirits and death ... Do you have a phobia?

- Correction, I do not fear death, but I do not want to die (laughs). I'm just afraid - of darkness! Because it's scary (laughs). It is possible that I got this fear, because in one of my past lives I was blind. Also, as I claustrophobic in this life, this is because in one of my past life I was an Egyptian queen who was buried alive.

How does it look like to "talk" with the evil spirit. Is he, like the others nothing but a shadow?

- I've never channeled evil spirits! I do not want to have to deal with them, however, I believe they exist.

Would you agree to cooperate with the police in solving murders?

- There are special mediums dealing with that. It would be as if you ask from general practitioners to carry out the difficult surgery. I'm just here as a body through which the spirits send messages to loved ones. From ghosts I receive only messages in relation to what can be prevented or fixed. I allow them to come into me and I act like they do. On the other hand, the ghosts never reveal the names of the killers. It really exhausts me to deal with violent deaths ... Several times I was literally "pinned against the wall," or I felt as if I was being "bitten" ... These things exhausts me.

Which case exhausted you the most?

- The most difficult cases are when parents lose their children, but also when an 8-year- old girl loses her mother, or I communicate with women who died in childbirth. It is simply impossible to compare the human tragedy. At the end of the day I'm happy to give people who live peace and the ability to talk to their loved ones.

Is it true that you communicated with the spirits of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston?

- Whitney Houston appeared while I was doing a session with a girl whose mother died. The mother of that girl and Whitney Houston were sitting in the car, crying and laughing, singing the song "I will always love you." Then this girl told me that, as she was coming to me, in the car listened to that song and that she and her friend were crying all the time. I have seen Michael Jackson in a group session at my house. It was immediately after his death. He sang, played and showed me a red leather jacket, gloves and a shirt from a concert in 1986. Moments later, a girl from the group picked up a sweater and showed us that shirt. She was his fan and she had no idea that he was following her.

Foundation "James Randi", awarded you the prize for medium who deceived the greatest number of people with the least effort in 2012. How do you respond to those who accuse you're a fraud?

- You know, 12 years ago a man was sitting across from me, and said he did not believe me and that he wanted to see what I would tell him. He folded his hands, giggling all the time. I said I did not want to waste my time trying to convince him into something he did not believe, but that his late wife was just expressing gratefulness for that until the last moment he cared, and was with her. The man burst into tears at the moment, barely uttering: "I'm not ready for this!" I reassure people that I'm a fraud by saying the details of their life that no one else can know except them and those who are deceased.

This reminds me of Whoopi Goldberg in "Ghost."

- Yes, but I still have not received a check with that amount of money, as she did at the end of the film (laughs). I'm still waiting for that to happen. Otherwise, if I am not good with this job, I will get a job as a comedian!

Speaking of movies, which one most faithfully describes communication with spirits?

- It is definitely Shyamalan’s movie "The Sixth Sense" starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment. The life of that boy from the movie is the picture of my childhood. For instance the scene when he talks to the late grandfather in the car ... I as a girl talked to my dead grandmother. I will never forget how my mother had the habit to ask me: "Who are you talking to? Next to you is an empty chair "? It happened to me to get up in the middle of the night and see through a window, in a neighbor's yard, a man hanged on a tree hanging and trying to tell me something ... In all this the support of the closest means a lot to me - parents, then my husband Larry, son and daughter. We're in this together!
