A group of 18 illegal migrants cut the wired fence that was erected on the border with Serbia near Ašotaloma, reported the Hungarian TV news channel M1 today.

In response to the journalists' comment that the fence is currently half as high as planned, government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs told MTI that it is only temporary and that the construction will be carried out according to the original plan.

Border fence cannot solve migrant issue

The construction will be carried out in several stages, in terms of technical features and technologies used. The fastest solution is to build a barbed wire, which is now being done, he said.

Hungary is building a fence along the border with Serbia, that will be 175 kilometers long in order to stop the massive wave of illegal immigrants. The fence should be completed by August 31, because the work is progressing at full speed. So far, more than 110,000 illegal migrants have crossed the border, said a government spokesman.
