Branson was in a camp in Iten where he was preparing a group of athletes for the marathon, and he suddenly felt ill while he was in training.
The news of his death echoed the athletic world, and was particularly a disbelief in Belgrade because Branson is a resident of our city for 15 years.
Serbia marks another anniversary of NATO attacks
He was part of every "Belgrade Marathon", he gathered athletes and dealt with the organization.
He was especially remembered when, in April 1999, with several people from the organization, he ran the entire marathon in Belgrade in protest of the NATO bombing campaign.
A special moment was when they passed by the target with a banner "Stop the bombing - run the saints"
With that, he wished to show how avidly he was against the bombing of our country.
The message from the marathon (which was not held officially, but only symbolically) was "Stop the bombing - run the saints"
- People here are not angry at the Americans, but at American politics - said then by Branson for Politika.
After the bombing campaign, he moved to Belgrade where he married a girl from Serbia and became a Serbian son-in-law.
