As we found out, Maja P. was not re-elected as a judge in 2009, and since then has been unemployed. Neighbors say she fell ill from all the stress relating to work and fell into difficult financial times.
- The neighbors saw when Maja jumped and immediately ran to her aid. Shortly after arrived doctors, who took her away on a stretcher to an ambulance. I saw that she was still breathing. The emergency center is near our building so medical workers responded quickly - says a neighbor.
Unfortunately, a few hours later, Maja P. succumbed to her injuries. She lived in an apartment with her underage son, who recently completed the eighth grade. At the time of the tragedy the boy was at the pool with his friends.
- When he came back, we were careful what we said in front of him. We told him that his mother was hurt and that she was operated. We called Maja's brother, who came for the boy. In the meantime, Maja died. I do not know how her son will survive this tragedy. He is alone - says a neighbor, and adds that Maya P. wanted to jump from her window numerous times in the past twenty but was stopped by her son.
A DARK TWO DAYS IN SERBIA: 7 women killed in 48 hours!
The unfortunate woman, say residents, divorced her husband after the birth of her child. Her father died a long time ago, and two months ago her mother died, with whom she lived.
- Maja could not find a job. Due to the aggravation and stress she also had mental problems, fell ill and lost a considerable amount of weight. She and her child lived from his grandmother's pension. They somehow made ends meet. However, when the grandmother died, Maja and her son no longer had any income. Only when all this happened, I heard that they had no money - even for bread. If I had known, we would have collected money and helped her out as much as we could have - says a neighbor.
It is a shame that a woman with a university degree found herself literally on the street. She was a judge and did not have any money for food. She was never in a political party and that is probably why she was not hired anywhere, while plain old rich kids are buying their diplomas and working as directors - says a cobbler named Miladin.
