On the subject of respect for intellectual property rights in Serbia, and by those that exist to monitor the implementation of laws, designer Goran Babic does not have anything nice to say. The same experience, in this case, he had with altruism and noble intentions.
A BOSNIAN MAN BOUGHT AN EXCAVATOR OVER THE INTERNET: He paid 5, 000 euros, but it never arrived!
- When almost two years ago in broad daylight, a building roof collapsed in Danube Street in Novi Sad, I came up with the idea to create a character that would help people be cautious around such buildings. And before that, I saw that the city had plenty of these buildings and wondered why they were not marked - says Babic, who promptly went to work and independently began his campaign.
Babic attempted a quest for an institution to consider his proposal that this sign be officially to put in us with the purpose of warning of the dangers of collapsing building. However, without any financial support, he began a campaign that included gluing these warnings to dilapidated buildings.
Has Serbia become the land of fakes?
- A year and a half after the publication of my sign on social networks and on my website, in one of the buildings in the street Mite Ruzica I saw a sticker with my sign - signed by "Building Inspection". First, I was glad that my character served to enhance the security of citizens, and then I wondered how come no one from Building Inspection contacted me and asked whether my sign may be used and whether the same needs some compensation, but rather stole it from the Internet - Goran Babic explains his shock to city authorities.
BE CAUTIOUS: Counterfeit dinar bills are all over, here's how to recognize them!
Even though someone in his place might have been happy that he did not spend as Filip Vukša in Belgrade, who also dared to do something good for his city, Goran decided to find answers to his questions peacefully and contacted the authorities.
ONLY IN BALKANS: These Bosnians have millions of euros, even though they are unemployed!
- In the city building inspection I was told that they were very sorry about it but that they did not know that it was an author from their city. They explained that they got it from a town in Vojvodina, where someone had probably taken it from the internet, and that it was best to call when the chief inspector returns from vacation. From her, I subsequently received information that the sign was used in Bečej, for some time and that I should address the provincial building inspection - describes the author of his path of informing himself on who is responsible for the violation of his rights.
Because words like "someone", "somewhere", "somehow" and "sometimes" did not help him discover who he could turn to for protection of his rights, he contacted the provincial Building Inspection.
- When I told the man who called that I was the author of the warning sign that inspection used without authorization, he said "There will not be." Since he did not introduce himself, I prayed he would give me the address of where I could find out who and since when they have been using my sign. He replied that he could not devour such information, with the excuse that I am not the author! He said that this sign was brought from Hungary to Senta and that they are now using it. He explained that the inspection stole nothing, "because everything on the Internet can be used, "and that my character is" neither Coke nor Pepsi "with the question" And what will you do now? "
Machine for destroying counterfeits put into operation
Then he warned me that he will give my sign to someone to edit a brick and that "it will no longer be that" - Goran Babic recounts his conversation with the employee of the Provincial Construction Inspection, which, as he says, his interlocutor ended the conversation with, "Sue us freely, maybe you get something", which brought him another dilemma: was the sign "brought"from Hungary or taken from the Internet?
Hoping that unlike Goran Babic we would come across a little more professionalism and seriousness, we contacted the provincial construction inspection where a gentleman whom the secretary presented as "Pajkic's Assistant", said that "they have nothing to do with this."
- I'm sorry I can not give you more information about this matter, but building care is the responsibility of City Inspection. We do not know
which sign you are referring to, but Building Inspection is certainly not using it without authorization - said Pajkić.
Unfortunately, when we phoned the City Building Inspection afterwards, nobody answered, which is why we did not find out how it is possible that a state institution uses a sign for official use for which they do not know who it belongs to and where it comes from.
