This bird is destroying Serbia, there are TOO MANY of it

Sour cherries with the largest plantation in Vojvodina were attacked and processed by starling birds. They picked 300 tons of cherries, destroyed a third of the genus to 200 hectares, and manufacturers are looking for help from the state.

- Such an invasion of starlings is not remembered by even the oldest residents of this region. Last year we picked 2,360 tons of cherries, and this year, barely 800 tons - says Dusan Stoilkovski, a cherry picker from Plandište

Havoc in the cherry field of Zvonko Mrdja from Janošek in Alibunar is such that he plucked only 20 kilograms of fruit.

These days, farmers in Plandište and Alibunar are in fear of Starlings that are still circulating over these places, after cherries they will attack other crops of cereals and fruits.

- Now, they mostly attack sunflower fields, plantations of plums, pears and other fruits that are in the process of ripening. How farmers and fruit growers will be able to defend themselves will be left to be seen. But, if it ends up like with the cherries, it will be a disaster - say farmers.
