Unlike some sports in Serbia which are more or less invested, kayaking belongs to those in which there is barely any investment, and the team reps, as a rule in competitions achieve significant results.

At the last European Championship held in kayaking and canoeing in the Czech Republic, Serbia won a total of seven medals, including two bronze won by Novi Sad native, kayaker Milica Starović.

- Impressions from the European Championships are positive. I think we, as a team have achieved outstanding results and I am proud that we have a sport that can boast that with a strong championship with so many medals.

Of course, I'm thrilled with my two bronze wins. We rowed a great race, we are well prepared, so this result is not surprising - tells Milica to Telegraf.

Regardless of the result, the athlete does not stop here, but works hard and prepares for further competitions - preparation for the Olympic Games which will be held in Baku, which is a good test for the main competition of the season and the main goal-the world championship in Milan, which has to grapple with standards for the Olympic Games in Rio.

- In a few days I'll be back in Hungary, our training base in Szolnok, where we prepare and train. I have high ambitions when it comes to sport. Athletes from individual sports are very self-critical. It can always be better, and we always have something we can improve. Perhaps this is the secret of success that makes us and motivates you to work hard and get better.

What are the conditions for training and preparation in Serbia?

- Kayak is not a popular sport in our country, unfortunately, it is a wonderful sport and we have wonderful places and rivers where you can train,

recreations by the water and in the open. I hope the medals and achievements we receive, contribute to young people getting interested in and acquainted with our sport.

- I've been kayaking since I was little, I started for the company, and stayed because I fell in love with nature and the feeling of water. It is a special pleasure after a well done training and won race, which has the biggest hold over me.

What does your training and preparation look like?

- Extremely annoying. Although it is a seasonal sport and competition season is only during spring and summer, we prepare the whole winter and perform preparations that are really exhausting. Then we spend a lot of time in the gym, we have a lot of running, swimming in order to be ready and to be in better shape when it comes time for competition. In the spring, we begin racing and then we have two training sessions a day on the water, plus jogging or gym. Of course, that's how its like when its a top sport in question - says Milica Starović.

- It can sometimes be exhausting, stressful and difficult both physically and mentally to fight the many things that sports bring. There is a lot of sacrifice for the sake of results, separation from family and country, a lot of effort and work has been done, but it really is all worth it when you reach the results  and success, satisfaction and happiness is worth everything.

How much can you bench?

- Like an average guy, I can lift 100kgs without a problem - comments the smiling kayaker.

Who is your best supporter?

- My boyfriend, my family and close friends. They can understand and accept the separation and my dedication to the sport and provide me with the most support.

Given the prop in your sport, how do you comment on when they ask if you've "sucked paddles"?

- Given that I have been hanging out with and successfully paddling since childhood, I must say, no  I have not sucked paddles -  says Milica Starovic clearly and with a laugh.
