King Peter I Karadjordjevic was a modest man which made Serbs love him and was called “Uncle Pera“. The fact that he died on an old military bed shows that he did not care for luxury as all royal families in the world did. Telegraf.rs brings the story about the house where SERBIAN KING- THE LIBERATOR died!

In Senjak, in Vase Pelagića St. there is a house where king Peter I Karadjordjevic died on an old iron bed according to the tradition of the Karadjordjevic's. In 1919 he moved into this house which had belonged to a famous merchant. It was a beautiful house in the vineyards, in a quiet part of Belgrade.

The saddest SERBIAN LOVE STORY: This children's disease brought them together, but death did them part ...

However, as Telegraf.rs found out on the spot-this house also felt all the events that Serbia had gone through during the past decades. Instead of being a pillar of culture and Serbian pride, it is dilapidated, abandoned and overgrown with weeds.

The entrance was smashed, as well as the pavement in front of it, the fence and the handles were corroded. Everything was in a poor condition, and the grass around the building had not been cut for a long time.

The only good thing about this house is its interior, because you can see different cultural activities, as well as exhibition items, or listen to a good concert. The rest is worth forgetting!

Peter I Karadjordjevic was born on 11 July 1844 as one of five children of Karadjordje's son- prince Alexander Karadjordjevic and princess Persida, whose maiden name was Nenadovic. The fact that Karadjordje Petrovic's and Jakov Nenadovic's blood ran through his veins made him even more popular with Serbs.

King Petar died, as it is often pointed out, on an iron military bed, and was buried in his endowment, the church mausoleum in Oplenac. He devoted his last years of life to the construction of the church.
