THEY DIDN'T EXPECT THIS IN BELGRADE: A young man and woman were chatting during their ride, and then the taxi driver started to beat them!

On Thursday night after exiting a Belgrade Club, two young adults wanted to return home by taxi. The cab car had not started up yet, but instead of a safe ride home, the two were mercilessly attacked and all that, they say, because of a comment that the cab driver didn't like.

A young lady, I. M. aged 24 and her friend B. L. aged 18 claim that they and two other people were victims of a rampant cab driver, who, as they are convinced, was provoked by a harmless comment made by B. L., the two of them told their story of the tempestuous night for "24 sata".

- On Thursday we went to a well-known club, and after leaving, we called "Naxis" taxi to take us home. When the cab arrived, me and my friend got in and waited for another friend to arrive.

We chatted quietly, in no way being rude or loud and obnoxious when all of a sudden the cab driver started shouting. He shouted for us to "leave, get out, get out."

Confused by the cab driver's reaction, we hesitated for a second but then he got out of the vehicle, opened our door and started screaming for us to get out. That's when it got worse - retells the story I. M. (24) for "24 sata", she could not believe what was happening to her.

According to her friend B. L. (18), he got out with her, soon to become the target of the attack.

- I said to the savage, "Well, we go out, it's not problem, we'll call another cab." That's when he rushed over to me, and hit me with his fist in the mouth - says B. L., and adds, that's when his friend rush to his aid.

As told by the two friends, the cab driver then attacked their friend. But he did not stop there.

"Naxis" taxi company states that they know nothing of the incident, but should the allegations of the young man prove correct, the driver will be severely punished.

- Currently, I cannot possibly know whether this is really a cab driver of my association. The injured young man can come to us, we'll pull up the cabinet and find the vehicle. We are available for any kind of cooperation, but we do not understand why the police failed to respond when they were already out on the scene. Had I been present at the incident and seen everything, I would have solved the matter easily. The cab driver would be removed immediately from the association - says Nenad Glavcic, the director of "Naxis" taxi.

Her friend, B. L., who was kicked out of the cab along wit her, said that looking back, he wondered what could have set the cab driver off to attack them, and said that he assumed that it was his sexual orientation.

- It's quite possible that the cab driver heard when I commented that some guy was cute. That's why he was aggressive towards me. He was completely out of control. I couldn't believe that he was moving to hit a woman - says B. L. and stresses that the police came, made note of the situation and quietly moved on.
