“This year we put emphasis of class A cucumber, pickles, for which we have provided market in BiH and EU. The project is worth 9 million marks, so in the next five years we will hire more than 6,000 farmers in BiH”, says Ismeta Jakupović, director of Agron.

“This is a big advantage for farmers because they nave no financial investment at all, and we provide everything. At the end of the season they return through the purchase certain quantities of pickles”, said Ismeta Jakupović.

According to the estimates of the President of the Serbian Chamber of Agriculture, Vojislav Stanković, Serbia could earn $ 400 to $ 500 million from raspberries if the production of this fruit is modernized, said Stanković.

– That is almost four times more than now – said Stanković and reminded us that Serbia earns between $ 120 million and a record $ 140 million from exporting raspberries. He said that Serbia is currently the third world producer of raspberries, behind Poland and Russia, noting that in our country in the last five years raspberries are produced on 15,000 hectares approximately.

Average raspberry production in Serbia is 81,000 tons per year, while the average yield is four tons per hectare. In our domestic production there are two varieties of raspberries – “willamette” (87%) and “meeker”, which is a little more productive variety.

– The farms are relatively small and fragmented, with no irrigation and feeding systems and the productivity is quite low, raspberries are picked and packed in unhygienic manner – explained Stanković.
