Vucic: Serbia will prove itself as true, European partner

Serbia will prove itself as a true European partner in addressing current challenges, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said after Monday's meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, adding he is satisfied with the conversation organized at the initiative of the head of the German government

Vucic told journalists he is confident that the first chapters of EU talks with Serbia will be opened by the end of the year.

The prime minister also said he and the German chancellor had a long and serious conversation on many issues, such as European integration, the stability of the Balkans, the region's economic and political stability, while the focus was on false asylum seekers and refugees.

He pointed out there are still many open issues and that talks with the European Commission, the UNHCR and the German government on what else Serbia can assume are yet to follow.

"Serbia will prove itself as a true and European partner to its German friends," Vucic noted.

"We will know how to show our best side in this crisis as well, and to help the people who are in trouble," he underlined.

Vucic also asked Merkel to urge a greater number of investors to come to Serbia.
