Mayor of Novi Sad Zarko Micin today attended the first session of the Organizing Committee for the celebration of the anniversary - 150 years since the birth of Mileva Maric Einstein, a Serbian scientist and wife of Albert Einstein.

The mayor said that the city will support the implementation of the program in honor of the great historical figure in all available ways.

The committee made the decision to erect the monument to Mileva Maric on the Belgrade (Beogradski) Quay in Novi Sad.

Micin stressed that although she was born in the town of Titel, also in northern Serbia, Mileva spent time in Novi Sad, together with her husband, Albert Einstein.

"Their achievements in the world of science are of exceptional importance at the global level, and it is good for Novi Sad to adequately support this anniversary, but also that our famous scientist, pioneer and a symbol of efforts for women to be respected in that sphere of life, gets a permanent memorial in our city," Micin said.

He added that by erecting the monument, the identity of Novi Sad as a city of science, culture, freedom of spirit, and progress will be further established.

"At a time when Novi Sad is becoming an increasingly attractive and desirable cultural and tourist destination on the map of Europe and the world, this monument will be proof that our city remembers its greats and preserves the memory of those who changed the world through knowledge," said Micin.

The session of the Committee was chaired by President of the Vojvodina Provincial Government Maja Gojkovic, and members of the Committee will have the task of proposing content and coordinating activities in cooperation with educational, cultural, scientific and other relevant institutions regarding the marking of the anniversary.
