The Ministry of Justice of Serbia has strongly condemned the decision of the provisional Pristina institutions to issue warrants to arrest 20 Serbs for alleged war crimes.

The Ministry announced that it "condemns in the strongest terms the latest activities of the illegal and unrecognized judicial institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, which aim to continue intimidation of Serbs and further preventing their return to the autonomous province."

After information arrived about the warrants for 20 Serbs for alleged war crimes committed in Djakovica, although most of these people have never been to Djakovica, it is obvious that this is an organized persecution of Serbs and an undisguised threat to their safety, the Ministry continued.

"The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia appeals on the international community and its institutions in Kosovo and Metohija to condemn and prevent further irresponsible behavior by the illegal authorities in Pristina, which violate basic human rights of the Serb population, threaten their freedom of movement, while a campaign of disgraceful persecution and intimidation of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija is carried out," a statement said.

It also stressed that there must be reaction from the international community and its representatives in Kosovo and Metohija to such disgraceful moves by Pristina, because the rule of law and respect of all democratic values and achievements must be and remain the priority.

The basic court of the provisional institutions in Pristina issued warrants for 20 Serbs for alleged war crimes, stating that they are suspected of allegedly killing 106 Albanian civilians in Djakovica and abusing another 300, Pristina media reported earlier on Monday.
