Energy Minister Djedovic: Authorities must sanction behavior of opposition activists in Lazarevac
Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic strongly condemned the threat to Serbia's energy security posed by opposition activists from Lazarevac and appealed on the competent authorities to sanction such behavior.
"Irresponsible individuals intent on achieving their political goals are today consciously working to the detriment of all citizens of Serbia, because their violent actions endanger the supply of electricity. The workers of EPS (Serbian power company) saw through their intentions and refused to serve as a tool for achieving a political agenda.
As they failed to gain the support of the EPS workers, a part of the opposition is now trying to prevent those employed by RB Kolubara from coming to work, by organizing violent blockades and puncturing bus tires, thereby endangering their constitutionally guaranteed right to work," said Djedovic Handanovic.
According to her, those opposition activitsts are deliberately harming all citizens and the economy of Serbia, wanting only to fight to gain political points.
"The production of coal and electricity are part of the critical energy infrastructure and their smooth functioning is necessary for all of us, for every household, every hospital, every factory.
It is absolutely inadmissible for energy capacities to used as a means to achieve political goals. I appeal on the competent authorities to sanction this kind of behavior," Djedovic Handanovic said, according to a statement issued by her ministry.
