A police officer, 38-year-old M.C., was seriously injured this morning at around 9:45 am on the Belgrade-Novi Sad highway near the town of Indjija.

The officer was securing traffic after a heavy motor vehicle broke down in the overtaking lane.
A video was published on social networks showing a crushed Volvo that had driven into with a police car and a truck.
The Volvo driven by G.P. (50) collided with the police vehicle that had the emergency lights on, which then hit the police officer and caused him serious injuries.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic confirmed that the incident happened.
"The police officer was transported by ambulance to the Clinical Center in Novi Sad. The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Stara Pazova was informed about everything. The investigation is ongoing," Dacic said.
