"Children have parasites, girls underwent gynecological examination": New details about Brcko house of horror
Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Brcko District Radmilo Ivanovic, said that a report based on the medical examination of the dozens of children who were found two days ago in a house in that town in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been completed.
The results show the children kept there did not live in appropriate hygienic conditions, and are infected with parasites.
"The Brcko District police will conduct an intensive investigation. A medical examination of the children has been carried out. It was found that they did not live in hygienic conditions, they have certain parasites. They are being treated. The children have not been identified, we do not have information who the children are, nor who their parents are. The three persons who have been detained are from Bosnia and Herzegovina. A number of girls were examined by a gynecologist," Ivanovic said.
A total of 31 children were found in the house, and the Brcko District Prosecutor's Office announced that the three people who were arrested were questioned last night. The owner of the house, Zahida Djogo, was among those questioned.
"Regarding the event, I can say that during the course of the day yesterday three persons were questioned by the Brcko District prosecution, those who were detailed on February 25. We have submitted to the Basic Court a proposal to keep them in custody. There are fears that the suspects might destroy, hide, change or forge the evidence, that is, repeat the crime (if released). For child trafficking, the minimum sentence is 10 years in prison," he said.
He also pointed out that the Basic Court would decide on the detention proposal within 24 hours.
"I have information that a hearing will be held at 13:00 where it will be considered," Ivanovic said.
"Also, the persons who were arrested on February 26 will be brought to the Prosecutor's Office during the day. We will examine whether there are reasons to ask for them to be detained as well. These are the persons who came forward and said they were either the parents or relatives," Ivanovic stated, adding that there is no evidence thus far that these really are the parents or family members of the children.
