Caretaker Prime Minister Vucevic: There will be no transitional government
Serbia's caretaker Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said on Thursday that he does not see the point of the Nova DSS party blocking the EXPO construction site, except to stop life and harm the country, and added that there will be no transitional government.
Vucevic told this to journalists in Vrdnik, when asked to comment on the blockade of the EXPO construction site in Surcin and the statement made by the opposition party's leader, Milos Jovanovic, that "there will be no peace for the authorities until they accepts the fact that a transitional government is the only solution to the huge political crisis in Serbia."
"I don't know what the meaning of all that is. They break into the EXPO construction site and what do they do then, and what is the point of all that and what is the result of all that? Just like those in Novi Sad from the extreme leftist organization 'Bravo', they broke into the Vodovod ("Waterworks") twice and we don't know why they were doing that. We don't know what the point is except to stop life, except to irritate someone, to create an incident and just to get another story out of it.
It doesn't make any sense except that this will cost us all a lot economically. I don't mean the government, but the whole of Serbia and all citizens, since every day we have blockades and calls for boycotts, strikes, creating an atmosphere that nothing should function in this country, driving investors out, ruining investments, credit ratings, tourists not coming. They are harming the state," Vucevic said.
Asked why his resignation will be confirmed at the end of the upcoming Assembly session, rather than at the beginning, Vucevic said the latter scenario the proposed laws important to the citizens would have to be withdrawn, and thehn those who are asking for the resignation to be confirmed at the beginning must say that they do not want the students' demands to be adopted.
"If the resignation is confirmed, then the amendments to the Law on Higher Education cannot be adopted. This means that we cannot fulfill the fourth demand of the students. Then those who are in favor of it must say - we are in favor of the student demand not being adopted, for it to be delayed for some time, for a new government to be elected, so the new government would have to enter into new talks, then a new bill, then a new session must be scheduled... When my resignation is confirmed, the deadline of 30 days starts running to elect a new government, if we don't get a new government within that period, early elections will be held, those are some clear things," said Vucevic.
He added that he thinks Serbia should form a new government and assessed that that is a better solution than going for new elections.
"You can never rule out elections in politics, but if you ask me, I am in favor of electing a new government," said Vucevic.
The caretaker PM noted that he is eager for the consultations to start, that the SNS has spoken with its coalition partners and that they are also in favor of electing a new government instead of holding elections.
