Serbian Deputy PM Vulin: President Vucic has been fighting corruption systematically for years
"President Vucic has been fighting corruption for years. He is fighting it systematically. All of this that you are seeing now was not done in three months, these are all investigations that have been conducted for years that are coming to fruition," Deputy PM Aleksandar Vulin told Pink TV.
"This is how corruption is fought, systematically. This is not an ad hoc measure, he did not say - go ahead and arrest 10 people. No, no one is arrested without a serious investigation. This is something that should serve as a source of pride and shows how well the state functions, how well the institutions function. This used to be unthinkable. Does anyone remember anyone doing this before this government?"
He recalled that, when he was the minister of internal affairs, the mayor of Palilula, a man who was a member of the SNS presidency, got arrested.
"Back then, it didn't count as fight against corruption? So what was it if not fight against corruption? We were arresting the most prominent state officials, state secretaries. Do you know how many countries in the world can say they did something like that? If it weren't for President Vucic, then and now, it wouldn't have happened, not because he breaks the law, but because he provides the necessary political support that we always need for things like this."
Vulin also reminded that years ago, President Vucic had initiated a state crackdown on organized crime, and therefore a state crackdown on corruption, and that during the time he was leading the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the worst drug clans were dismantled and Belivuk, Miljkovic, Saric, Elez, Vusovic all got arrested.
"I remember that time with immense pride. You cannot forget Prosecutor Nenadic, and all those people who had the incredible courage at that moment to fight the mafia and do what no one had dared to do for decades before them. And President Vucic already said at the time, that there would be no end to the fight against the mafia," said Vulin.
