Xi Jinping congratulates Statehood Day to Vucic: China and Serbia, side by side in defense of vital interests

Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory message to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian people on the occasion of the nation's Statehood Day - Sretenje, stressing that the two sides stand side by side in defending each other's vital interests and on issues regarding major challenges, in order to preserve international justice and fairness.

"On behalf of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese people, allow me to send you and the friendly Serbian people my warm congratulations and best wishes! Under your leadership, the economy and society of Serbia are developing rapidly, cities and villages are being transformed day by day, thus writing a new chapter in the building of the state," the Chinese president said in his message.

Xi pointed out that China highly values the fact that Serbia, faced with a changing and turbulent international situation, stands for independence and self-reliance, following the trend of a time of peaceful development and joint victory through cooperation, the Serbian president's press service announced.

Xi Jinping thanked the president of Serbia and the Serbian people who, as he pointed out, gave him a warm and friendly welcome during his successful state visit to Serbia last year.

"Under our joint leadership, relations between China and Serbia have achieved a breakthrough and started a new journey of building a China-Serbia community with a common future in the new era. The mutual political trust between the two countries has been further strengthened, traditional friendship is getting stronger over time, and practical cooperation is yielding fruitful results," the Chinese president added.

He stressed that the two sides stand side by side in defense of mutual vital interests and on issues regarding major challenges, in order to preserve international justice and fairness, which represents a positive contribution to building a community with a common future for humanity.

"I attach great importance to the development of Chinese-Serbian relations and I am ready to make efforts with you to together maintain strategic communication at a high level, promote the iron-cast friendship between China and Serbia, continuously deepen and strengthen the construction of the community of China and Serbia with a common future in the new era, in order to contribute even more to the well-being of the people of our two countries.

I wish prosperity and peace to your country, and happiness and well-being to the people," wrote Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Serbians celebrate Statehood Day on February 15, which coincides with a major Orthodox religious holiday, Sretenje.
