"I want to cut brother Serb's throat": Ukrainian refugee threatens to kill worker in Serbian asylum center
M.K. (64), a Ukranian refugee from Donetsk who is accommodated in the Asylum Center in Vranje, southeastern Serbia, has caused an incident.
First, he was harassing his compatriots staying at the center by shouting and making threats, to which the workers of this institution reacted by trying to calm him down - but he attacked them as well.
The Ukrainian continued with his aggressive behavior, and when a reception worker entered the room, the suspect said he wanted to "cut the borther Serb's throat."
According to the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office, the Ukrainian held a knife as he said this, and lundged towards the worker, attempting to stab him.
The worker managed to escape, and later the police and the prosecutor's office were informed about the event.
The Ukrainian is now detained on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of endangering security.
The suspected has been in Vranje in the Asylum Center since June 11, 2024, enjocing temporary protection.
About 140 Ukrainians have been in the center since March 2022, after the war between Ukraine and Russia broke out.
