Dacic: Police are not providing security for blockades, because these public gatherings are not registered
Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dacic has told Tanjug, regarding the question posed by the Citizens's Ombudsman whether the MUP provided security for the student protest in Belgrade during which a young woman was injured in a traffic accident, that the police cannot secure the blockades, because these public gatherings are not registered.
"There is a clear procedure that is not respected in 90 percent of cases and no one communicates with us, even though we are inviting them to, and asking them. When a rally is registered, then we have the obligation to take all the measures (to secure it). This way we have no information or requests, which is bad both for us and for those who organize the rallies," said Dacic.
He called on the organizers to report the gatherings, because otherwise the MUP cannot act to take appropriate measures.
"We call on the organizers to appoint people who will communicate with the MUP and the police about everything, in order to avoid problems and incidents. Our goal is for everything to always go peacefully," the minister stressed.
The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade announced previously that M.P. (36), the driver who hit the woman, was detained and charged with the criminal offense of aggravated attempted murder.
