The Government today adopted the First Biennial Report on the Transparency of Serbia according to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, and Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic pointed out that Serbia is the first country in the region to fulfill this international obligation.

Vujovic stated that the first two-year report on transparency, which was adopted today, is important as a reporting mechanism in the field of climate change and is part of the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement, her ministry announced.

"Recently, we took another big step, and submitted to the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention the first National Report on the Inventory of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) of the Republic of Serbia for the period 1990-2022, thus fulfilling Serbia's international obligation," stated Vujovic.

She added that, bearing in mind that climate change is a challenge at the global and national level, Serbia is extremely committed to its obligations under the Paris Agreement, as well as the goals that are an obligation as part of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

Vujovic recalled that last year was also marked by the issuance of the first permits for the emission of greenhouse gases in Serbia.

With the introduction of permits for greenhouse gas emissions, a mechanism for monitoring, reporting and verification of those gases has been established, which will provide a reliable basis for planning and implementing measures to reduce emissions, the ministry said.
