Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has said that the opposition refuses to participate in a proposed advisory referendum because they know what the result would be, and actually want to come to power without elections.

"You saw right away that the opposition refused to participate in it, because they know what the result would be. And this is a 'litmus test', so you can see that you are dealing with politicians who want power, but if possible without elections, because they know that they cannot get any good results in elections," Dacic told RTS.

He added that the idea of the advisory referendum is to check the mood of the citizens.

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic on Tuesday called on the opposition parties - prompted by a CRTA public opinion survey - to submit signatures for an advisory referendum about the president, stressing that legitimacy is the most important thing in politics, and that sovereignty stems from the will of the people.

President of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic will today submit 100 signatures of the members of the ruling majority in favor of holding the referendum.
