Italy and France have expressed their concern over the decision of the Central Election Commission in Pristina not to certify the Serb List for elections in the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija, which will be held on February 9.

Representatives of these countries said the decision was political.

"We express our concern over the political decision made by the CEC not to confirm the candidates of the Serb List for the upcoming elections. We believe that this key institution will again be guided by the legal order, which is responsible for protection of political rights of all citizens of Kosovo," says a statement from the Italian embassy in Pristina published on Facebook.

The French embassy in Pristina called on the CEC to support the integrity of the election process based on appropriate legal procedures.

"We express our concern about the CEC decision not to certify the candidacy of the Serb List for the upcoming elections. The certification process is a procedural matter that supports democratic elections and should be free from political considerations," the embassy posted on X.

On Tuesday, the Serb List submitted its complaint to the Election Panel for Appeals and Petitions in Pristina regarding the decision not to approve its participation in the elections on February 9.

Representatives of the Serb List previously told a press conference that the decision was illegal and politically motivated and announced that they would appeal during the day.

The OSCE Mission in Pristina expressed its concern because the commission decided not certify the Serb List and stressed that the process should be free from politics.
