National Assembly President Ana Brnabic said today that the resignation of President Aleksandar Vucic would be disastrous for Serbia, but that she can understand that Vucic is thinking about it in view of the attacks on him and his family.

She assessed that in the history of world politics, the hatred towards one man like that shown towards Vucic is unprecedented.

Brnabic told TV Pink that attempts to destabilize and weaken Serbia have been ongoing since 2014, when Vucic became prime minister, and that they have been intensified since 2017, when he became the president of the Republic.

"At the time those who don't like Serbia, which is independent, economically prosperous, which is experiencing successes that we have not seen in our history, realized after those presidential elections in 2017 what kind of trust Aleksandar Vucic enjoys among the people, and that's when the protests and demonstrations started every year," said Brnabic.

She said that all members of Vucic's family, from the youngest son Vukan to his parents, have been exposed to attacks and hatred.

"No one has been left out. For a while it was focused on his brother Andrej and his older son Danilo, but as they saw that Aleksandar Vucic was taking all that and that he had the support of his family, that the people recognized what was happening and that there was increasing support for Vucic who was suffering all these attacks and continued to fight for Serbia, then they expanded those targets, during the last campaign before the elections it came to the point that there was talk that Vukan does not exist, that Vukan was a hologram. And it goes on and on...," Brnabic said.

She stated that Vucic takes no time off, no holidays or weekends and that today, on the day of his family patron saint day, he is not with his family, but in Brussels, stressing that he once again put Serbia first.

"He is in Brussels because of Serbia, not because of himself for sure. I don't know who would choose to celebrate their family patron saint day outside of Serbia or in another city," said Brnabic.

She said that the resignation of Vucic would be disastrous for Serbia, because by 2027 four big things need to be completed, the first of which is to prepare for EXPO 2027 and to host the world in Serbia.

"To show what Serbia looks like, what we have achieved since 2012. It is unreal what is happening in the country in terms of economic and infrastructural progress, that we won the right to host EXPO 2027, that we preside over the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence, and ten years ago we were not even on the technological map," said Brnabic.

She said that the state should fulfill what it promised to the citizens before the elections, namely that the average salary in Serbia in 2027 should be 1,400 euros, the average pension 650 euros, and the minimum wage 650 euros.

"Those are four key things for me, and for that we need Aleksandar Vucic," said Brnabic.

She added that it is important to have a serious and responsible opposition that proposes solutions and thus forces the government to work harder and better, but that this is not the case in Serbia, because the opposition does not have any proposals or solutions.

"In that situation, Aleksandar Vucic competes against himself every day, he comes up with ideas such as apartments for young people, such as additional support for the return of our people from the diaspora, additional support for them to invest in Serbia," said Brnabic.
