Government in Pristina chooses Turkish company to build ammunition factory in Kosovo and Metohija
The government of the provisional institutions in Pristina has already chosen a company that will build a factory for the production of ammunition and design of drones in Kosovo and Metohija, writes Koha, referring to sources in the Ministry of Defense of the provisional institutions in Pristina.
According to those sources, the Turkish company that the contract will be signed with at the beginning of the week is Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE).
As stated, the first phase should be completed within two years, and within that time the factory will start the production of 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm caliber ammunition.
"The contract will also cover the design of drones," the portal writes.
At the end of last month, the government of the provisional institutions in Pristina formed an inter-ministerial commission to assess and initiate negotiation procedures regarding the opening of a factory for the production of ammunition and a laboratory for the design of drones.
The prime minister of the provisional institutions in Pristina, Albin Kurti, stated at the time that the government in Pristina showed that defense is one of its main priorities, that the number of its "soldiers" had doubled, the budget of the Ministry of Defense of the provisional institutions had tripled, and investments in armaments increased many times.
According to Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council, KFOR is the only armed force in the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija, and that document also provided for the demilitarization of the so-called KLA and other armed groups of Kosovo Albanians.
