Dacic's touching tribute to Palma: My dear brother, I can only tell you that I do not accept farewell
A commemoration for Dragan Markovic Palma, the leader of United Serbia (JS), was held today in the Serbian National Assembly. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said goodbye to Markovic with touching words.
He said that he does not accept the farewell with his long-time friend, but also that one of the last messages that Palma gave him was to convey to President Vucic to "defend this policy to the end."
He said that neither he nor Markovic had brothers, but that they were like brothers to each other.
"My dear brother, I can only tell you that I do not accept the farewell," said Dacic.
The Interior Minister also said that human greatness is measured by how much someone will be talked about after their departure, and that he is sure that Markovic will be talked about every day.
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic also addressed those gathered and said that he was paying tribute and respect not only to a comrade, but to a man who marked several decades in Serbian public life and politics, a man who, as he said, left an indelible mark.
"We all have our own physical earthly end, for some it is complete, for Dragan Markovic it is certainly not," the president said.
The commemoration in the hall of the Assembly was also attended by Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, President of the Assembly Ana Brnabic, Government Ministers Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, Bratislav Gasic, Djordje Milicevic, Sinisa Mali, Nemanja Starovic, Darko Glisic, Milica Djurdjevic Stamenkovski and others.
Dragan Markovic died in his home on November 22, at the age of 64, after a short illness.
