Although November in Serbia is supposed to bring rain, snow, and wind, it seems that the change in the weather that has occurred over the last two or three days caught everyone a bit off guard. The extremely strong wind is creating problems throughout Serbia, especially when it comes to the electricity supply system.

RINA is reporting that all available Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS, Serbia's electricity distrubution company) crews are working intensively and around the clock to repair the distribution network where it was damaged by gale-force winds, and heavy, wet snow. The majority of problems were reported in the districts of Raska, Zlatibor, Jablanica, and Moravica.

Electricity supply was being gradually restored during yesterday. This morning, more than a third of affected consumers again had electricity in their homes.

"Most interruptions happened in the territory of the Kraljevo distribution area, namely 139, at high and medium voltage. 155 repair teams were deployed in difficult conditions in the field, in order to normalize the supply for consumers as soon as possible," EDS confirmed.

The company said that the damage to the grid was primarily caused by falling and the the heavy snow that tore conductors in some locations.

EDS is asking consumers for understanding, because the difficult conditions and inaccessible terrain make it hard for its workers do to their job.
