The president of the Provincial Government of Vojvodina, Maja Gojkovic, said today, during her visit to the municipality of Irig, that it is now a place where people want to come to live and work, and added that 1.5 billion dinars have been invested in this municipality in the last two years, mostly in infrastructure and agriculture.

"Everyone knows what Irig looked like eight years ago, neglected, with a high unemployment rate. Thanks to the efforts by all levels of government, that picture is different today. Irig is one of the most desirable places for vacation and recreation, people now want to come to live and work here," Gojkovic said during the ceremonial session of the Municipal Assembly, held on the occasion of the Day of the Municipality of Irig.

She pointed out that there will be more investments in Irig and that everyone is looking forward to the construction of the Fruska Gora Corridor.

"Numerous other potentials will be unlocked, primarily economic, from which all Vojvodina residents will benefit," said Gojkovic.

The president of the Provincial Government also received a recognition letter for the assistance of the Province to the municipality of Irig, especially in improving tourist facilities.

"This award is an obligation to continue to work intensively on the development of this place, in all segments," emphasized Gojkovic.

The president of the municipality, Tihomir Stojakovic, pointed out that capital projects are implemented every year in Irig, and that this year roads and tourist attractions are being improved.

He added that the Vrdnik Spa has become the second most visited in Serbia, and that Irig is becoming the wine capital of Vojvodina, while the construction of the Fruska Gora Corridor will also contribute to further development.

"More and more citizens are expressing interest in living in our municipality, all thanks to the great understanding from the Provincial Government and the policy of (President of Serbia) Aleksandar Vucic," said Stojakovic.

The head of the Irig Municipal Assembly, Tomislav Stanojcev, said that remembering our ancestors who ensured freedom for their people is the basis of Serbia's progress.

Maja Gojkovic was also scheduled to the Health Center in Irig today, as well as works to build a wastewater treatment plant at the entrance to Vrdnik.

Irig Municipality Day is celebrated on November 13 in commemoration of the First World War liberation of the town.
