Serb List: "Kurti wants to ethnically cleanse Kosovo and Metohija not only of Serbs, but other non-Albanians"
"The brutal beating of a detained person is a terrible example of institutional repression"
The Serb List has announced that the beating of a detainee, Gorani man Sacir Lutvija, in the prison in Podujevo by Albanian guards represents best proof that the desire of the prime minister of the provisional institutions of Pristina Albin Kurti to ethnically cleanse Kosovo and Metohija is not directed only against Serbs, but also against other non-Albanians.
"The brutal beating of a detained person is a terrible example of institutional repression encouraged by the extreme statements coming from the regime in Pristina, creating an atmosphere in which battering non-Albanians is allowed and is not subject to any sanctions," a statement issued by the Serb List stresses.
It is added that, unfortunately, this is not the only example of beatings of arrested persons and detainees and that it is therefore necessary for international representatives to finally break their "vow of silence," stand up and raise their voices in favor of protecting human rights of Serbs and other non-Albanians in the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija.
"Someone must finally reason with the regime in Pristina and stop the institutional repression that has been carried out at all levels for the last three years against members of the non-majority communities. The fact that none of the police and other officials have been legally convicted for violating the rights of Serbs and other non-Albanians confirms that this is not an isolated incident but systemic repression that must be condemned by everyone," stressed the statement issued by the Serb List.
Lutvija's lawyer, Jovana Filipovic, confirmed that the man suffered physical abuse from prison guards in Podujevo, who had been striking him on the head.
