Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic today announced that he had officially resigned from that position.

Vesic stressed that he submitted his resignation as a responsible man who wants to show by personal example that in today's Serbia, there is moral responsibility for a terrible tragedy that happened in a structure covered by the department headed by him.

"I am leaving this position with a clear conscience and proud of the results achieved by me and the team of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure that worked with me. I worked with great respect and responsibility towards the citizens and in best faith, exclusively in the interest of Serbia," said Vesic.

Late on Monday Vesic held an unscheduled press conference, announcing that he would formally resign today.

The move comes after a part of the Novi Sad railway station collapsed on Friday, killing 14 people and seriously injuring three more.
