Serbian Deputy PM Aleksandar Vulin has pointed out that 40 countries, one of which is a NATO member, have attended the BRICS summit alongside Serbia.

"To attempt to isolate Russia and one of the world's most respected leaders, Vladimir Putin, is as stupid as appointing (Tonino) Picula as the European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia, and Serbia is not stupid. Such moves tell Serbia that the European Union wants it in the BRICS. We understood you well. Greetings from Kazan," said Vulin.

Vulin's statement came in response to EU spokesperson Peter Stano commenting on the Serbian participation in the Summit by saying that he expects candidate countries for EU membership to refrain from contacts with Russia, and its president, Vladimir Putin.
