Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, who as an envoy of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic attended the inauguration of the new Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in Mexico City, pointed out that this was an extraordinary opportunity to show how significant and great the long-standing friendship between Mexico and Serbia is, dating back more than 100 years.

"In this sense, I am honored to have been an envoy of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic at this event, where many presidents and prime ministers from the most important countries were present," said the minister after the inauguration.

Dacic said that there were, among others, the wife of US President Joe Biden, the presidents of Latin American countries such as Brazil, Guatemala, Cuba, Paraguay, Chile, as well as EU's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep Borrell, and the vice presidents of China, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea and many others.

"It was also an opportunity to exchange opinions. I conveyed President Vucic's greetings to the new president of Mexico. Mexico is a huge country, the leader of Latin America, and further development of our bilateral relations would be of great importance for us," said Minister Dacic.

Dacic also said he was grateful to Mexico for its principled position regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

"Mexico did not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo. In that sense, building good relations with Mexico is of our vital national interest," stressed Minister Dacic.
